APA
NATIONAL---OCTOBER 6-7, 2007---LUCASVILLE, OHIO
The Southern Ohio Poultry Association is hosting the American
Poultry Association National Meet at the Scioto County
Fairgrounds in Lucasville, Ohio. If you are interested in
attending this show you should contact the Southern Ohio Poultry
Association, 1988 Cook Rd, Lucasville, OH 45648 or call
1-740-259-2852 (Evenings only). In the August issue of the
Poultry Press they have listed all of the awards that will be
given at this special event. There are many motels just minutes
from the fairgrounds; they are located in Portsmouth and
Waverly. I know the host motel is already full so don’t wait too
long to made reservations. From the sounds, this is going to be
a big event with lots of birds and people.
The APA-ABA Youth Program will be holding three (3) contests at
the APA National that you will have to prepare for in advance.
These three contest will be for members only of the APA-ABA
Youth Program so be sure your dues are up to date.
We are holding a “Photography Contest”, an “Artist Contest” and
a “Craft Contest”. The explanations for each contest and the
applications which must be filled out for each item you enter
can be printed off our website, all you have to do is just click
on the appropriate icon for those you that wish to enter and
print the forms. If you would like to have the forms mailed to
you, please call me and I’ll be happy to mail them. Please note,
I will be out of town from Monday, August 27th and will return
on Saturday, September 1st. You can leave a message on the
recorder and I will return your call as soon as possible.
This year we have some different fun awards for each contest.
You can win a travel duffle bag with the youth program insignia
silk screened on the bag, a tote bag with the same insignia and
a youth club Frisbee. Three places will be awarded in each
contest in 3 age groups. The ages are juniors 8-10,
Intermediates 11-13 and seniors 14 & over. After the show, we
will have an engraved plate made for the first & second place
winners, with your name and the award listed. We’ll mail these
to you and you can place them on your award.
We are hoping to have some other fun activities for you to
participate in on Saturday but this all depends on the time
available. Remember, this day is going to be full with your
birds being judged and the showmanship contest.
TESTING: Mr. Pat Malone, an APA/ABA sanctioned judge and past
president of the APA, along with Mr. Paul Kroll, APA/ABA
sanctioned judge will be available to test you for the next step
in the youth program. If you would like to be tested, be sure to
bring your completed notebooks for examination on the points and
work you have achieved before testing. It would be very helpful
if you would contact your state leader or me in advance so we
have some idea how many members would like to be tested.
Your notebooks must be turned in Friday, October 5th, when you
check in your birds in order for your state leader and other
personnel to have time to grade your notebook.
I will be bringing a few items listed on our website store for
our sale table. If you would like to order something specific in
advance you can email me or call and I will be happy to set it
aside and save it for you.
We might possibly need to borrow some tables from members as the
host group only has so many available. If any of you have an old
card table or any other type of table we could use at the show
we sure would appreciate your help. Please let me know if you
can help.
I guess that’s it for now. Please watch this area of the website
for any updates before the show.
As you can tell, I’m pretty excited and I’m looking forward to
starting off my show season visiting with all of you in
Lucasville.
Good luck, I hope the birds you have raised this year are ready
to show. Of course it would be nice to see them on champion row
but that doesn’t always happen but just seeing a nice long row
of your favorite breed all spiffed up and ready to be judged is
pure pleasure too.
Also, please remember the APA is also holding an art and
photography contest and if you would also like to submit your
works in their contest. Info can be found here.
