Written by John S. Garrett, Licensed Judge of both the American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association, past President of the APA and Director of the ABA.  Mr. Garrett has raised Modern Game Bantams since 1948. Book 19 – American Bantam Association “ BANTAM STANDARD”

This is the 284-page Standard for all bantam chickens which includes a check list of breeds and varieties described in this edition.  Also included is a complete nomenclature of the male species and the female species, of the shanks and toes, wing sections and all types of chicken combs.  Descriptive text in defects and disqualification in Bantam chickens as well a down color of newly hatched bantam chicks.  Most illustrations are in black and white but there are several pages of color painting included. This is a 200-page book and another book by the well-known author Leonard S. Mercia who was the Vermont Extension Poultry man for 25 years. Since retiring he has toured Kenya, Uganda, and Honduras as a poultry consultant. The book contains information, including pictures, on selecting the right turkey, breeding and management, feeding and housing, flock health and processing. Dr. Roger Murray, Animal Pathologist, University of Vermont highly recommends this book to farmers and students because the information is practical and useful, and the text is easy to read.

Book 43- Modern Waterfowl Management

The is a 359 page book that is in it’s 9th printing. This book is very comprehensive in the raising, breeding, housing, feeding, grazing, care & incubation of eggs, and therapeutics with even some recipes for our Christmas goose or duck. There are many detailed drawings and photographs that will educate and help the breeders of waterfowl through their raising of these magnificent birds. Part 1 – Geese, Part 2 – Ducks, Part 3 – Swans and a section of general observations are included. This is a newly published 96- page book written by Dr. Michael Davis, Texas A&M University. The forward states: This manual is intended for use by poultry growers (backyard or commercial), veterinarians, poultry service technicians, Extension agents, and other poultry enthusiasts as a reference for identifying and treating certain poultry diseases.
The book is written in a wonderful format listing the disease, susceptibility, transmission, clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment with bright, full color detailed photograph of each disease.

Book 47 – Bantams

Bantams is a great book with chapters on the value & purpose of bantams, characteristics of bantams, several different breeds & varieties explaining the breed, variety and special distinguishing features, these are all listed under the name of the class these breeds are shown in.  There is chapters on getting started with bantams, advice about securing “good” breeding stock, selection and mating, artificial insemination, incubation, rearing, feeding, housing and runs, diseases, parasites and selecting, conditioning, fitting and showing these wonderful bantam chickens.
John L. Skinner for the North Central Regional Extension group wrote this14-page booklet.    The APA-ABA Youth Program recommends this book highly for the beginner and is a great book for all breeders library.  $ 7.00

This 15 page booklet prepared by the University of Florida, Cooperative Extensive Service, includes chapters on the construction of still-air incubators, construction of a egg Candler, parts of an egg, incubating and hatching eggs, incubation time, temperature and humidity required for various species, the care of chicks after hatching and how to display living chicken embryos (the preparation & preservation of embroyos) and much more.
